Wide Area
Networks (WAN)
A Wide Area Network
(commonly called a WAN)
is a group of computers that
reside in multiple locations,
often in different cities,
connected by routers and
configured to communicate
directly with each other.
WANs are secured with private
lines or Virtual Private Network
devices (VPN).
Connect multiple locations
into a single administrative
domain
Connecting your remote locations
into a Wide Area Network creates
the foundation for a new level
of communication and
collaboration within your
company. |
 |

Example Wide Area Network
Each branch office Local Area Network is
securely connected back to the
corporate office by a Virtual Private
Network device in the example above.
Although the traffic utilizes the public
Internet, VPN "tunnels" are created
between your remote locations into the
Corporate HQ. These tunnels
encrypt your data as it passes between
locations. The result is a
collection of cities that behave as if
they are in a single location.
 |
Control of
the network is centralized.
Access to files, folders, data,
services, and printers is
controlled through a single
administrative domain based at
HQ. An email server at HQ
provides communication for all
of your employees.
Typically, the use of faxes and
long distance calling drops
significantly. Moore
Information Systems, LLC can
create your LAN from scratch,
often using some or all of your
existing PCs. |
