Blackberry
Enterprise Server and Blackberry
Device Rollout
Installing a Blackberry
Enterprise Server on your
network kicks your customer
service and staff communications
into high gear!
What is a Blackberry?
"Blackberry" refers to a product
developed by Research In Motion,
a Canadian wireless device
company. Combining the
features of a cell phone, email,
Internet browsing, and GPS, the
Blackberry is a complete mobile
communicator. Anywhere you
have a cell phone signal, your
Blackberry is active.
Paired with the Blackberry
Enterprise Server, your office
email, calendar, address book,
tasks, and memos are almost
instantly forwarded to your
Blackberry device. You can
originate and reply to emails,
open most email attachments,
view and add calendar items,
surf the Internet, and plan route
trips by GPS using
the Blackberry.

The Blackberry
Enterprise Server (BES) software is
loaded on a Windows server. For
most small to medium businesses, BES can
be installed on servers running other
applications. Beyond the initial
software and user setup, the server
requires very little maintenance.
Blackberry packages from your cell phone
provider range from $40 to $60 per unit
per month.

"But I don't want to be
connected 24/7 to my company..."
Often, the initial reaction to
the introduction of Blackberry
devices into a company is met
with fears of never escaping
"the office". In reality,
just the opposite is true.
For most managers (and
especially IT staff), being in
constant contact with your email
system is a fantastic boon to
productivity. No more
surprises when you open Outlook
in the morning. You're
constantly up to date on needed
information. Former
downtime, such as waiting on an
airplane, waiting for a meeting
to start, can be made
productive. |
